A watersports weekend

Irony: I lived 10 minutes near the coastal region of Trou aux Biches and yet, have never explored the so many water sports activities till now..

Better late than never

Saturday 29 Sept, got the opportunity to do Undersea Walk with Seaman Diving, located at La Cuvette Public Beach, Grand Baie. Jack, the CEO of the company welcomed us. He is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer with more than 20 years of experience in scuba diving and has a speciality to dance with a giant-sized eel. We were given a briefing on the undersea walk that we were going to do. Firstly we take  short boat ride to read another platform boat. We embark on that boat which has all the equipment. As one begins to descend to the sea bed using a ladder, one is equipped with a helmet that will enable you to breathe normally.

And we started to enjoy our first underwater stroll at a depth around 3 metres. Awesome!

You have 3 professional dive masters who are with you to ensure your safety. One takes photographs and videos (wearing dive equipment), the other guides you on where you can walk etc (wearing the helmet) and the third one swims on the surface to bringing fish food on and off to be delivered to us. I was feeling a bit of pain in the ears and also hearing the loud noise of the bubbles coming out of the helmet. The instructions were to walk with knees bent, to equalise your eardrums as soon as you step on the undersea and communicate with Signs to the dive master in case of problems..

Then on the Sunday fine morning (though it rained for about 10 minutes), time to go fishing!

Mr the fisherman was waiting for us. He woke up very early in the morning and took 2 hours to fish the small baits.

I had the please of accompanying a guest of the Global Rainbow Foundation, Dr. Indrajit from Paris, for the fishing expedition. He had experienced of fishing in the sea of many countries (maldives, france etc.)

To much of our pleasant experience and good luck, as soon as we reach the fishing spot, both our baits caught 2 beautiful blue Dorade.

Dorades are Fighters, they are difficult to bring to the boat after being hooked. Even with my energy drink in the morning, I was having much trouble to wait and pull the fish with all strength that I had.

Very beautifully coloured!

We caught 6 fishes in around 2.5 hours. We missed 4 fishes which hooked to our baits but who managed to get away.

  1. Fishing seems to be nice but I never want to take the bait out of the fish’s mouth :/

Those dorades are ‘fishable’ quite near the coast, it seems?
