MCB’s Recovery Business Unit ensures recovery planning and effective instruments to intervene in overcoming financial distress that may arise from past due loans, loan restructures for troubled assets, liquidation of these assets, and more.

MCB team of Recovery Business specialists is currently on the search for a solutions driven expert to join the unit as a ‘Contentieux’ Coordinator.

By joining the team, you will directly report to the Head of Recovery and lead a team of legal professionals responsible for recovery of debt through various legal actions.

Key responsibilities & Dimensions:

  • Advise on and ensure proper implementation of legal recovery actions in line with Recovery business unit strategy;
  • Review legal documents, including affidavits, Power to Seize, correspondence and instructions to attorneys;
  • Discuss cases with external legal counsels and propose appropriate recovery solutions;
  • Represent the Bank at court hearings and follow up on all litigations;
  • Discuss and monitor payment of legal fees payable to counsels;
  • Provide regular feedbacks, notably through reports and analyses, on all matters relating to the ‘Contentieux’ section;
  • Monitor team performance and provide coaching to encourage a high performance culture.

Job requirements:

  • LLB (Hons) or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in legal proceedings in the courts (local and international);
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a team;
  • Experience in insolvency matters would be an advantage;
  • Legal expertise relevant to Companies Act and Insolvency Act;
  • Knowledge of Bank of Mauritius Guidelines and banking regulatory framework.

The team is seeking for a critical thinker with strong work ethics towards the bank’s principles and values, and who can demonstrate ability in dealing with a demanding environment.
