VACANCY

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who wish to be considered for employment at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for the post of DIRECTOR (SCHOOLING) (MGI/RTI).

QUALIFICATIONS : By selection from among:-

  1. officers of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute who hold a substantive appointment in the grade of Assistant Director (Schooling) and who possess –

(i) A Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in

at least two subjects obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Advanced Level”

(ii) A degree or joint degree from a recognised

institution; and

(iii) A Master’s Degree in Education from a recognised

institution.

OR Equivalent qualifications to A(i), A(ii) and A(iii) above acceptable to the MGI & RTI Council

AND

  1. Candidates who:-

(i) possess a Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in at least two subjects obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Advanced Level”;

(ii) possess a degree or a joint degree from a

recognised institution;

(iii) possess a Master’s Degree in Education from a

recognised institution;

OR

Equivalent qualifications to B(i), B(ii) and B(iii) above acceptable to the MGI & RTI Council.

(iv) reckon at least 10 years’ experience at senior technical/management level in a major division of a large institution/department in the field of Education or in a tertiary education, environment together with at least five years teaching experience at Secondary level after graduation; and

(v) are computer literate.

Note

Qualifications at A(i) and B(i) above should have been obtained prior to qualifications at A(ii) and B(ii) above and qualifications at A(ii) and B(ii) above should have been obtained prior to qualifications at A(iii) and B(iii) above. However, candidates who as at 30 June 2008, did not possess the qualifications at A(i) and B(i) above but who possess the qualifications at A(ii) and A(iii) above and at B(ii) and B(iii) above will also be considered provided they hold:-

(a) a Cambridge School Certificate or passes obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the MGI & RTI Council; and

(b) a PhD or a second Master’s Degree or a postgraduate Diploma from a recognised institution

or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the MGI & RTI Council

Qualification at (a) under ‘Note’ should have been obtained prior to qualifications at A(ii) and A(iii), at B(ii) and B(iii) above and at (b) under ‘Note’.

  1. Candidates should:-

(i) have knowledge and expertise to provide leadership in any one of the following technical areas:- (a) Secondary Education; (b) Technical, Vocational Education and Training; (c) Higher Education; (d) Curriculum Research and Development; (e) Research and Planning; and (f) School Management Services

(ii) have the drive to achieve quality education to adapt to new technologies and be in the forefront of technological innovation;

(iii) possess excellent analytical skills and be able to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to problem- solving;

(iv) have the ability to think proactively, critically and strategically;

(v) possess excellent leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills;

(vi) have highest commitment to achieve the strategic objectives falling under his responsibility;

(vii) have the ability to be flexible and work

collaboratively within a high pressure office; and

(viii) have a knowledge of Indian culture, traditions

and cultural values.

D. Candidates should be computer literate.

Candidates should produce written evidence of experience/knowledge claimed.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be responsible for implementation of educational reforms in all the Secondary Schools of the MGI & RTI based on principles of relevance, equity and quality and to ensure that all the Schools of the MGI & RTI are equipped to play fully their pedagogical roles.

SALARY : Rs102,500

Applications should be made on the prescribed forms and returned, duly filled in, together with a full Curriculum Vitae and photocopies of birth, marriage (where applicable), valid certificate of character, educational certificates and evidence of experience claimed, so as to reach the Director-General, Mahatma Gandhi Institute & Rabindranath Tagore Institute, Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka (80808), not later than 3.30 p.m. on Tuesday 23 October 2018. Applicants should produce evidence of equivalence of qualifications, if applicable.

The onus for the submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered in case of non-submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.

Incomplete and/or inaccurate application forms or application not made on the prescribed forms will not be considered.
