Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment as Ophthalmic Optician/Senior Ophthalmic Optician in the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life.


Candidates, unless already in the Service, should not have reached their 40th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.


Candidates should –

(i) be registered as Ophthalmic Optician or “Opticien-Lunetier” under the Opticians (Registration) Act; and

(ii) be computer literate.


1. Candidates should produce written evidence of knowledge claimed.

2. Candidates should submit a copy of their Certificate of Registration as Ophthalmic Optician or “Opticien-Lunetier” together with their Application Form.


1. To be responsible to the Consultant-in-Charge for Ophthalmology services for the following –

(i) core Optometric duties including refraction, low vision, specialist contact lenses, prescription of spectacles and contact lenses;

(ii) paediatric Optometry including Orthoptics;

(iii) post-op cataract, vitreous and corneal refraction clinics;

(iv) ophthalmic diagnostic procedures including tonometry, perimetry, fundus photography and angiography;

(v) retinal images; and

(vi) low vision aids and rehabilitation.

2. To use ICT in the performance of his duties.

3. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Ophthalmic Optician/Senior Ophthalmic Optician in the roles ascribed to him.

The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale Rs 29,400 x 775 – 32,500 x 925 – 37,125 x 1,225 – 40,800 x 1,525 – 49,950 x 1,625 – 62,950 a month.
