Vacancies for Post of Technical Officer (Competent Authority) Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping

Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment as Technical Officer (Competent Authority) in the Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping.

  1. AGE LIMIT

Candidates, unless already in the Service, should not have reached their 40th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Candidates should possess a diploma in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture or Agriculture or a relevant field from a recognised institution or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Public Service Commission.
  2. Candidates should be computer literate.

NOTE

  1. Candidates should produce written evidence of knowledge claimed.
  2. The onus for the submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered in case of non-submission of written evidence of knowledge claimed and Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
  3. The Commission reserves the right to convene only the best qualified

candidates for interview.

  1. DUTIES AND SALARY
  2. To carry out inspection of fish business establishments, fish and fish

products.

  1. To perform work related to fisheries research, fishing technology and

aquaculture research and extension.

  1. To assist in –

(i) training of fishermen, fisheries extension, fisheries surveys and

carry out awareness campaign;

(ii) the preparation of a national residue monitoring plan for aquaculture products for export, as and when required, by importing countries;

(iii) inspection of live aquatic animals including ornamental fish; and

(iv) quarantine facilities for live aquatic animals.

  1. To inspect landing sites and consignments of fish and fish products for compliance with national and international legislations prior to export and of imported fish and fish products for further processing or re-export.
  2. To inspect fishing boats and vessels prior to departure for their fishing

campaign and at unloading of fish upon arrival.

  1. To conduct routine/follow-up/ad hoc inspections of registered fish business operators for verification of compliance with legislation in force.
  2. To assist in conducting official audits of registered fish business

operators for verification of compliance with legislation in force.

  1. To carry out sampling of water, ice, fish and fish products (including aquaculture) as per the sampling plan prepared by the Competent Authority and in line with international standard.
  2. To ensure enforcement of appropriate legislation in force.
  3. To use ICT in the performance of his duties.
  4. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Technical Officer (Competent Authority) in the roles ascribed to him.

Note

Technical Officers (Competent Authority) may be required to work outside normal working hours including Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale Rs 19,575 x 475 – 21,950 x 625 – 23,200 x 775 – 32,500 x 925 – 37,125 x 1,225 – 40,800 x 1,525 – 42,325 a month.
