The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre is a parastatal body working under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research. The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre Trust Fund was established in 1994 by an Act of Parliament with the aim of promoting Science and Technology, supplement school education through non-formal programmes and create awareness on developments in Science and Technology among the public.

I. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment for the following posts at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre Trust Fund(RGSCTF):-

(A) IT Officer
(B) Maintenance and Development Officer (Civil)
(C) Maintenance and Development Officer (Graphics)

Appointment to the posts will be initially on a temporary basis for a period of one year. Subject to satisfactory service, candidates may be offered substantive appointment

II. AGE LIMIT
Candidates should have reached their 18th birthday and unless already employed in the public service or in parastatal organisations should not have reached their 40th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

III. POST A: IT OFFICER

QUALIFICATIONS
(i). A degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Information Systems from a recognised institution or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board.
(i). Candidates should –

  (a) reckon at least one year’s post-qualification experience in the field of Information and Communication Technology;

  (b) possess good communication, interpersonal and organising skills; and

  (c) have the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement.

Note: Candidates should produce written evidence of experience claimed.

Duties:

1. To assist the Manager/Curator (Electrical/Electronics/IT) in the management of the IT Unit including the security aspects.

2. To assist and advise the Manager/Curator (Electrical/Electronics/IT) in all IT-related matter/projects.

3. To ensure timely execution of all IT works, repairs, maintenance, installation and commissioning.

4. To develop, maintain and protect an effective computerised information system for the development of databases and softwares.

5. To assist in database/network administration and management.

6. To assist in the preparation of the specifications for acquisition ofhardware and software, and to analyse and evaluate proposals for suppliers.

7. To design, develop, maintain, implement and support the Centre’s website.

8. To assist Management in establishing training programmes to meet the Centre’s needs in IT and in the design of software programmes for presentation on the activities of the Centre.

9. To assist in the day-to-day running of the IT Unit.

10. To perform back-up and recovery as and when required.

11. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the IT Officer in the roles ascribed to him.

Note: The IT Officer may be required to work outside normal working hours including
Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

SALARY
Flat Salary at the rate of Rs 26,300 a month.
The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in the scale: Rs 26300 x 775 – 32500 x 925 – 37125 x 1225 – 40800 x 1525 – 49950 x 1625 – 56450

IV. POST B: MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (Civil)

QUALIFICATIONS
[B]
(i) A Cambridge Higher School Certificate with passes at Principal Level in at least two subjects including Mathematics or any Science or Technical subject obtained on one certificate or Passes in at least two science subjects including Mathematics or any Science or Technical subject obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced Level’.

(ii) A diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.or An equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board.

(iii) Candidates should be computer literate.

Note: Qualifications at B(i) should have been obtained prior to qualification at B(ii) above.

SALARY
Flat Salary at the rate of Rs 19,575/. a month.
The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in the scale:
Rs 19,575 x 475– 21,950 x 625 – 23,200 x 775 – 32,500 x 925 – 37,125 x 1,225 – 40,800 x 1,525 – 48,425

Duties:

1. To assist the Manager/Curator (Mechanical Engineering) in in the maintenance of Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre building and its
infrastructure.

2. To assist in the repair and maintenance of window openings and doors including blinds and curtains.

3. To assist in the preparation of bidding documents.

4. To assist in the repair and maintenance of the water supply network and accessories.

5. To assist in the repair and maintenance of the water body and accessories.

6. To supervise all civil works.

7. To supervise subordinate staff.

8. To assist in the maintenance of all green space (lawn and plants) of the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre.

9. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Maintenance and Development Officer (Civil Engineering) in the roles ascribed to him.

 

V. POST C: MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (Graphics)

QUALIFICATIONS
[C]
(i) A Cambridge Higher School Certificate with passes at Principal Level in at least two subjects including Art obtained on one certificate or Passes in at least two subjects including Art obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced Level’.

(ii) A diploma in Fine Arts or Graphics from a recognized
institution.
or An equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board.
Candidates should –
(a) Possess good expertise in commonly used graphic software;
(b) Possess good creative and artistic skills in painting and 3D modeling with clay, plaster, fiber glass and other materials;
(c) Be computer literate.

Note: Qualifications at C(i) should have been obtained prior to qualification at C(ii) above.

Duties:

1. To assist the Exhibition Officer in the preparation of art works, illustrations and layouts.

2. To make dummies, models and dioramas using various materials like paper, clay, plaster, fibre glass.

3. To assist the Exhibition Officer in the execution of display works.

4. To assist in computer graphics work.

5. To ensure that photographs are taken, developed, printed and enlarged.

6. To help in preparation of screen printing materials and carry out screen printing work.

7. To assist in the maintenance of all graphics equipment.

8. To assist in the preparation of bidding documents.

9. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Maintenance and Development Officer (Graphics) in the roles ascribed to him.

Qualified candidates shall submit their applications on the prescribed form and returned, duly filled in, together with photocopies of their National Identity Card, marriage certificate (where applicable) and all academic and professional qualifications plus where applicable, relevant documentary evidence of experience claimed.

VII. INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.

2. Copy of Certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.

3. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the application form and non-submission of photocopies of certificates shall lead to disqualification and elimination of the applicant.

4. Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.

5. The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the nonsubmission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.

6. The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top lefthand corner of the envelope.

7. Applications received after closing date will not be accepted. The onus for the prompt submission of applications so that they reach the Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in time lies solely on applicants.
