FULL-TIME ACADEMIC POSTS

The University of Mauritius, as an Equal Opportunity Employer, is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for academic posts, on a full-time contract basis, for the UoM- Ebène Branch located at The Core Building in Ebène, Cybercity, in the following fields/specialisations:

➢ Finance and/or Accounting

➢ Law

  • Private International Law

➢ Management

  • Human Resources Management
  • Marketing Management

The appointment will be at Lecturer grade and will be on a purely contractual basis for a period of two years. The University of Mauritius may in due course offer the possibility of appointment on the Permanent and Pensionable Establishment after a contractual period and there are conditions attached. However, a contractual appointment does not give any candidate the automatic right to any future appointment in a permanent capacity at the University of Mauritius.

Applicants are invited to note that academic recruits will service mainly the UoM- Ebène Branch but will be called upon to service other programmes offered at the Réduit Campus, as and when required. Delivery at the UoM- Ebène Branch of the majority of Lectures is via eLearning and Online Delivery through eLearning Platform and using Webinar facilities. The selected applicants will be attached to the Faculty/Department concerned and will also be expected to engage in research.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST OF LECTURER

A Degree and a Master’s Degree in the relevant field from a recognised institution.

NOTE: Candidates unless already in the Public Sector (Government and Parastatal Bodies) should not have reached their 40th birthday by the closing date of the application.

ACADEMIC POSTS SCHEME OF SERVICE FOR THE POST OF LECTURER

Prescribed Qualifications : A Degree and a Master’s Degree in the relevant field from a recognised institution.

Reporting Line : Dean of Faculty through Head of Department

Duties : • Teaching, Research, Administration, Consultancy

Activities, Examination and Invigilation.

  • Designing programmes of studies, preparing lecture notes, teaching materials, teaching aids and distance education – on-line courses.
  • Other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from incumbents in the roles ascribed to them.

Salary (PRB Report 2016) : Rs 30950 x 775 – 32500 x 925 – 37125 x 1225 – 40800 x 1525

– 49950 x 1625 – 62950/-

BENEFITS TO ACADEMIC STAFF EMPLOYED ON CONTRACT (in line with the 2016 PRB Report)

GRATUITY : End-of-contract gratuity in lieu of pension payable at the rate of two months’ salary on completion of twelve months’ satisfactory service.

LEAVES AND PASSAGE BENEFIT

 21 working days Annual Leave and 21 working days Sick Leave for each year of contract. At the end of each 12 months service on contract, unutilised Annual Leave may either be cashed or accumulated.  Passage benefit as recommended by PRB Report 2016.

OTHER INCENTIVES

 Full-time academic staff who are registered Professionals may exercise their profession, subject to this being done outside their working hours, this not being conflictual with their work at the University and prior written permission being obtained from the Vice- Chancellor.
