Today, the bloggers meeting was a sign that the Mauritian blogging community is active. It can be taken as a motivation for those who are dormant to make a “come-back”, why not? Why not have a much greater number of blogging nerds for the next community meeting?

Having said that, lets ponder a bit on the UoM Campus (on which there is a majority of bloggers) and this list of clubs and societies affliated to the Student Union. The question is which ones of them are active? Hmm….this calls for some Research!

Hmmmm I didn’t know many of these societies! They should do better promotion. The only one I notice the most active is the ISS.
Its also sad for some societies to not have an online presence. We have enough information on how to start blogging and an evolving blogging community as well. Facebook or other social networking websites (http://cseuomacmu.ning.com/ for eg.) offer freely the opportunity to broadcast the activities of the clubs/societies and have the community comment on them.
Is internet access the issue? Is the internet connection speed an issue?
About the IS Society, I think it’s weird that they are not updating the blog and yet they still advertise their blog on the posters of new events organised by the society.
Indeed morinn, an updated blog would be more desirable…a Big Buzzzzzz to all those dormant blogs. We also note that the “official” UoM Blog (http://uomnews.wordpress.com/) is dormant!

@all, being the *noob webmaster* of IS-Society.com, i may be able to give soem clarification on this society.
Well, the website was built mid-2008, by myself.. (lol.. my first website)
and i tried my best to make it look good. I am no php expert, so i chose to use a CMS. Since we started to use the website, the blog has been quite *not so usefull*. because we could use the website for posting the articles and all..
Why havent “we” close the blog.. well.. simply because it contains some information about the “previous-iss-team”. Thy built that, we are new. Although we are here and they are gone, the blog still contains info about their hardworks and experience. This is one of the reason the blog is static.
I know i know… you must be thinking.. STILL we could have used the website for the same purpose, but it makes a difference. we are a non profit org. so.. things like these matters..
Well.. i hope i provided some clarification about this matter..
dont forget.. we are students afterall.. some have dissertations to submit.. other have assignments.. just like you people..

A nice website and as your first experience, congrats! Thank you for shedding light on the dormant issue of IS society blog. Well next time in your posters, whilst advertising for this blog, maybe you can also put the new website on top of it so as it be emphasized as the new non-dormant online presence of ISS.

Yes, very interesting proposition. A blog for UoM students having different authors (each one with a user name/ password) where postings and updates in the different faculty of university in general can be made. There can a board of administrators. enfin something like that. What’s in your mind?

yea that would be our publishing window kinda.. indeed that would have been really nice..
I was thinking, since ther’s ISSociety, la fronde society and soo many societies.. most of which are dormant.. if we too made a society, Mauritian Bloggers Society on campus, that would be worthwhile and since all the bloggers are online.. our society will always be kept alive as u said with different admins.. so, each time, ther will always be someone with something to write about..
then Ashfaq bro, just do it! I sincerly think you have the support of the whole Mauritian Blogging Community, most of which are either UoM Students still in the campus or ex-UoM students working or UoM Lecturers. Come on, turn the idea into a constructive project!
Btw last year before su election , avish , tushal and i sent a letter to administration for the blogger society on campus . No news since then .. admin had to aprove the society .
Maybe you have to do a follow-up dear; Red Tape at UoM administration perhaps! Else, we could talk with the Student Union concerning the idea…

yeps, the first bloggers meeting proved it. Regular regrouping at the Campus (or at some other nice place) would be not a bad idea. let’s not the bureaucracy of registering a Blogger society be a potential barrier!
