“It’s got to be better at these key tasks otherwise it has no reason for being. Some people have said: oh, that’s a netbook. The problem is netbooks aren’t better at ANYTHING.” Applause. “They’re just cheap laptops.”

“What’s the battery life on this remarkable device?” Pauses. “We’ve been able to achieve 10 hours of battery life.” Big applause. He can “fly to San Francisco to Tokyo and watch video the whole way on one charge.” That’s ten hours of VIDEO. And 1 month of standby charge.

“We’ve enhanced the iPhone SDK to support development for the iPad as well, and we’re releasing the SDK today.”

“We’re incredibly psyched to pioneer the next generation of digital journalism.” Ha, Martin Nisenholtz (from New York Times) said “psyched.”

And now, an eBook reader app. “Amazon’s done a great job of pioneering this technology with their ebook reader.” And now, a new app called iBooks. It’s got a bookshelf, and the screen actually looks like you’re looking down at a book, with extraneous stuff on the side that looks like the side of a book. It’s called iBooks. And, there’s even an iBook store that has Penguin, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, Hachette book group.

Browse TOC, change the font or the font size, all the standard stuff. “And that is iBooks.” Big applause. “We use the ePub format, the most popular open book format in the world, and I’m very excited about this. We think the iPad is going to make a terrific e-book reader not just for popular books, but for textbooks as well.”

Still no support for flash which is a deal-breaker.
It’s not cheap, $500 with 3G would have been great.
Very niche item in my opinion, I don’t envisage any use for it personally.
Let’s see what Asus comes up with for the Eee Pad.
