She was the world leader in Hindi at the Higher School Certificate exams last year. The girl, who is proud not only of her parents but also of her college, Sharma Jugdambi SSS, and especially her Hindi teacher, still can not realize that she is “top in the world”. Nivedita Rami Karia, always smiling, received her award at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Ceremony, which took place on July 13 at the Paul Octave Wiehe Auditorium in Reduit.

She comes back on the day she learned that she was ranked top in the world. In fact, she already knew that she was first in Mauritius in this matter since the proclamation of the results. But when, on 8 July, the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate called to announce the good news, she fell from the clouds. “I never thought I’d be ranked so high,” she said.

“Hindi has always been one of my favorite subjects at school. Everyone told me that you only had to watch the series and the movies on television and you’re done. But it’s wrong. It is a subject like the others. I fought to be where I am today, “says Nivedita.

She will continue her studies abroad this year in engineering. However, the girl does not give up her passion for Hindi. “I will always devote myself a little to this language.” Perhaps she will be licensed in Hindi in the future, as soon as the opportunity arises, she says.
