Le Défi Media Group is a mass media company based in Port Louis, Mauritius. The group’s operations include newspapers, magazines, radio and digital media. The newspapers, magazines and radio are mostly published and broadcast in French.
The story of La Sentinelle is indissolubly linked to that of the country. Indeed, La Sentinelle was founded in 1963, while Maurice was still a British colony, to publish the express, a daily newspaper appearing in the morning. Thanks to the expertise of its first editor-in-chief, Philippe Forget, the express was established. This newspaper played a vital role in raising awareness and in rallying supporters of independence as the movement grew.
After independence, proclaimed in 1968, the express pursued its mission and gradually became the first independent newspaper of Mauritius. From 1995, La Sentinelle diversified its activities, thus constituting a multimedia company of first importance. In 2009, as part of its development, this group modernized its brand image and adopted a new logo with this slogan: “To get ahead tomorrow”.
