Kermesse-Service-Civile-2017

The Annual Civil Service Kermesse was held on Sunday 5 Nov. 2017 at Gymkhana Football Ground Vacoas . The event was organised by the Public Officers’ Welfare Council (POWC), under the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms.

The POWC is a corporate body operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms. Its main purpose is to promote the welfare of public officers and their families. The Council’s objective is to organise recreational and leisure activities such as Civil Service kermesse, sports competitions (Badmintion, Volleyball, Football), culinary exhibition, debate and essay competitions.

The Opening Ceremony was performed by the Ivan Collendavelloo GCSK,SC. Deputy PrimeMinister,. Minister of Energy and Public Utilities where he “clarified” the role of Public Officers of the Government of Mauritius – to be at the service of the present Government and not of Political Parties. Without Public Officers, a Government would not be able to run its affairs, so hats of to the public officers who have the great challenge to be beyond political affiliations.

The kermesse is one of the major activities of the POWC where public officers, their families and members of the public have the opportunity to meet and interact in a convivial atmosphere. The event which has been organised since 1992 attracts around 125 000 people annually. Besides bringing together public officers and their families to interact in a stress-free and friendly environment, the kermesse provides an opportunity for the Staff Welfare Associations of different ministries and departments to raise funds so as to organise their respective welfare activities.
